Restoring a Piece of Nichols Hills History

Some projects are about craftsmanship. Others are about preservation.

This fence restoration was both.

Over the course of nearly six months, our team had the privilege of restoring the perimeter fence surrounding one of the most significant homes in Nichols Hills: The Nichols Estate, the first mansion built in Nichols Hills in 1929 by G.A. “Gilbert” Nichols, the visionary developer who created the community itself.

From the beginning, we knew this project was different. Every detail mattered. This wasn’t simply a fence that needed repairs—it was part of a historic property that has stood as a landmark for generations.

Our goal was not to redesign or modernize. Instead, we worked to faithfully restore the fence to its original character and intent, preserving the architectural details and craftsmanship that helped define the estate when it was first built.

Projects like this require patience. What many people see as a finished fence represents months of research, planning, fabrication, repairs, and careful attention to detail. We spent countless hours ensuring that each section reflected the original design while providing the durability needed for years to come.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this restoration was the opportunity to work on a property with such deep historical significance. Knowing that we were helping preserve a piece of Nichols Hills history made every challenge worthwhile.

As craftsmen, there is something incredibly satisfying about bringing historic elements back to life. You gain an appreciation for the original builders, the materials they selected, and the standards they worked to nearly a century ago.

Looking back, this project was a lot of work—but it was also a lot of fun. Restoring history always is.

We’re proud to have played a small role in preserving this remarkable property.
